Compact digital cameras are toast, says Kodak

kodak.jpgAnd that’s not in the sense of ‘better than sliced bread’ either. Apparently Kodak’s general manager Fred Seibl gave a blunt opinion on the future of low-end digital cameras at the recent Photokina show in Cologne.

“The compact digital camera is a short-term phenomena; it’s going to be eclipsed by the camera phone. We would like to see a lot of our technology in those phones, and we are already taking steps to achieve that goal.”

This doesn’t mean Kodak-branded cameraphones, mind. Instead, it’s more likely to team up with handset manufacturers to collaborate – something it’s already doing by installing software on Nokia phones to help people print their camphone snaps.
