In news that will undoubtedly prove to be joyous to the millions that use public transport everyday, the ringtone appears to be on the verge of becoming dead as a Dodo. Ok, so maybe not the ringtone itself but annoying novelty tones such as the Crazy Frog are on the way out according to M:Metrics who claim that overall revenues for ringtones where down in 2006.
It isn’t all bad news for ringtone companies though with sales of ringback tones: music played to the caller, where up with many networks now offering them, as well as third party companies.
