Mac news site Loop Rumors has posted a story claiming to have uncovered a letter from Apple to the FCC (the Federal Communications Commission, America’s comms regulator), asking for iPhone details to be kept under-wraps until June 15th.
This date ties in nicely with the final day of Apple’s 2007 Worldwide Developer Conference, and as the company has used the event to launch many previous products and services it would not be improbable to suggest that June 15th could be iPhone’s launch day.
Meanwhile, details of iPhone’s European release date remain sketchy, as is news of which operator(s) Apple will partner with in Europe. It is also not yet known whether 3G support will be added to the device for it’s European release – but given the enormous investment that European telcos have made in buying-up the 3G spectrum – £22b ($43b) in the UK alone – it’s likely to be high on their list of requests.
