An Apple patent application covering docking/ charging systems for the iPhone has just been uncovered. The patent deals with systems for docking the handset in either horizontal or vertical positions, something that’s desirable because of its auto-rotating screen display.
The most interesting part of the application is the news that Apple is considering using induction charging for the iPhone. This connection-free system would enable the user to place the handset somewhere on a docking point without having to fiddle around plugging in a cable. And, given the number of cables piled in the cupboard next to me right now, any suggestion that I might have one less in my life is good news… Although I suppose you still have to plug in the dock… Hmm…
