Further to last month’s speculation about iPhone pricing in the US, a Cingular (Apple’s network partner in the States) customer has spotted a note on the receipt for his new Blackberry that appears to promise a $150 (£75-ish) discount for signing-up to a two-year contract.
The receipt (shown right), says ‘iPhone for DEREK PUNSALAN 2 YR Agreement SAVINGS $150.00′, which seems to suggest that if a buyer is willing to take Apple’s handset on contract for 24 instead 18 months, there is a significant saving to be had (as you’d expect). Other posters on Punsalan’s blog indicate they’ve had similar receipts.
Of course, being able to announce in May/ June that the iPhone is ‘now available at the great price of $349 (£175) or $449 (£225)’ would be a nice PR coup for Steve Jobs and co.
