Behold, it’s the phone that thinks it’s a Wii. Mitsubishi’s new DoCoMo D904i phone has a motion sensor housed within its pink guts. Apparently the DoCoMo will utilize this feature in tailor made mobile games, but we are much more interested in how its motion sensor could be used to operate the phone’s more standard functions. Maybe a throwing action could be used to send a text, or a complicated set of different wrist flicks could be used to dial different numbers.
The DoCoMo, D904i cool as it clearly is, does have some apparent design flaws. As far as gaming goes, motion sensing seems a little impractical given that focusing on the screen is going to be tough when waggling the thing around. Also, waving something so expensive around just doesn’t seem right. The DoCoMo is going to need to be a robust piece of kit if it wants to survive the affections of the rabid tech junkies it will no doubt attract.
But who cares, you can waggle it and that’s all that matters to my one track tech obsessed excuse for a mind. Here’s hoping that it gets a European release, although unfortunately, this seems about as likely as a flying pig winning the lottery then being hit in the head by a small asteroid whilst munching on a full field of four leaf clovers on Friday the 13th. In other words, it is unlikely, but I have been wrong before (oh so many times).
