Microsoft unfazed by iPhone

ballmer.jpgEveryone is in a bit of a tizz at the moment with the arrival of the iPhone just around the corner, but Microsoft is apparently unfazed, at least according to comments made recently by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.

“I’d prefer to have our software in 60% or 70% or 80% of them, than I would to have 2% or 3%, which is what Apple might get.”

Interesting considering Apple’s own market share projections are only at around 1%. Looks like Ballmer has more confidence in the iPhone than Apple, but then maybe we are being just a little wilful with this one. Either way, a 1% share of the entire mobile handset market is hardly small change.

Anyway, still no news on a Zune phone; come Microsoft we love a good techie soap opera and the temptation to rain on the Apple iPhone parade must be tantalising.

interestingly he didn’t say how many phones do run Microsoft software did he? Probably less than 5 percent I’d reckon.

  2. Ah, but once 5 per cent of computers ran MS-DOS (the rest running some IBM system). I think the battle for a cross-platform OS is still on on mobile, personally.
