Nokia improves Series 40 Java & Flash

S40Starting June this year, Nokia will begin rolling out the fifth version of the world’s highest-volume mobile phone OS, Series 40. The biggest step-up is in the S40 version of Java (JSR-248), which Nokia is aiming to keep on a par with the Symbian-based Series 60 OS used in many smartphones.

What this should mean is better compatibility between various phones, which then means we’ll get more apps and games coming to Series 40 handsets. Nokia and Vodafone have been working together on this, to try and ‘reduce fragmentation’, so that more Java apps can run on more phones.

Also included in the S40 update is version 2.1 of Adobe’s Flash Lite, which will bring Series 40 smack-bang up to date in the world of mobile Flash apps too.
