Good news for the smartphone sector, as Symbian announced that more than 126 million phones have been shipped using its operating system. In the first three months of 2007 alone, 15.9 million Symbian smartphones shipped, compared to 11.7 million in the same period last year.
The company says 14 new Symbian phones were released in the first quarter of this year, although eight of those were in Japan. Several more were announced, and are due to go on sale shortly, including Nokia’s 5700 and 6110 Navigator, and Motorola’s MOTORIZR Z8 (pictured).
Finally, there are now 7,478 third-party Symbian applications available to download, according to the company. That’s good going.
