With only 19 days to go (including weekends) until the opening of Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference — at which it is widely expected that CEO Steve Jobs will reveal final details about the upcoming iPhone — both Apple and iPhone US operator AT&T are gearing up for the handset’s launch.
According to AppleInsider, Apple has been telling analysts that iPhone will launch in 2000 store fronts across America, which breaks down to around 160 of Apple’s own retail stores and 1840 AT&T ‘wireless boutiques’. Apple is apparently confident that it will meet its stated target of shipping 10 million iPhones by end of 2008, due to its ‘transformational user experience.’
Meanwhile, AT&T is accelerating its rebranding of the old Cingular stores to the new AT&T livery, with AppleInsider also noting that all in-store promotional materials have now been updated. All company-owned stores will have new frontages by September. AI also thinks that AT&T may have an exclusive on the iPhone for the next five years.
Lastly but not leastly, Boy Genius Report has been sent info which suggests that iPhone may be available on both pre-pay and contract plans, which may also hint at there being a subsidy for contract users…? Right now, we can barely wait for WWDC so that all will be revealed!
