Hot off the press release comes this, the new Nokia 6500 slide. The new 6500 series comes in two flavours, this stainless steel ’slide’ version and another called ‘classic’ (more on that in a moment). Intended to bring previously high-end (read Nseries) features into Nokia’s mid-range, the 6500 slide’s big feature is a 3.2MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, 8x zoom and a LED flash.
The 6500 slide is based on the trusty Series 40 (3rd Edition) OS, and also boasts a 240 x 320 QVGA screen with 16.7 million colours, support for push-email, a TV-out socket, stereo FM radio, MP3, MP4, AAC, eAAC+ and WMA music formats, Bluetooth, and can handle upto 4GB microSD cards. On top of that, the phone ships with Flickr and Adobe photo handling apps, and has a front camera for video calls.
With an estimated street price of €370 plus taxes (£250 plus VAT), the 6500 slider is running up against the N73 in price, but there seems to be a lot in the package to tempt you, if you’re not bothered about having a Series 60 handset. Size-wise it’s 96.5 x 46.5 x 16.4mm; it weighs 125g; and talktime is claimed to be up to six hours, with 13 day standby (take that N95 people!).
