They could have picked one of Beck’s more up-beat albums for the press shot… But at least it goes to show that someone at Apple has good taste in music.
We like the way Apple hasn’t gone overboard with the design of the case around the camera — it’s very discrete. Note also the buttons on the side — the long one is for volume control from the looks of things and the top one appears to have a bell icon in it. A recently-published list of specs for the iPhone included a ‘ringer/ silent key’, so this must be it.
We’re assuming that the darker lower section is designed to allow easier access for battery replacement than it is for iPod, even by Apple or AT&T’s own technicians. Presumably the iPhone’s SIM card goes in here too.
Note also the speaker (and probably) cooling vents on the lower edge, either side of the standard iPod connector socket.
It looks to us like Apple’s using a model with bigger hands for these new photos, because the iPhone looks smaller than in the original press shot. Here’s the new one…

A couple of in-use shots. Note the ‘add to call’ button on the lower left of the call screen, which allows you to quickly create conference calls.
Below left shows how you view multiple web pages in Safari; just click ‘add page’ and it zooms to this thumbnail view. Below right is how Word, Excel and PDF attachments are linked to from the email client — you simply tap on them to open them up. We’re still not sure how complex Word files will display, as the Apple demos have only shown basic text documents.
Sound options and some of the initial selection of ringtones. Marimba is the one that Apple’s been using in all the advertising that it’s been running.
Below left is the YouTube clip browser. Favourite clips can be bookmarked, and you can also search for clips added today or this week. Below right is the standard set of wallpapers that come pre-loaded on iPhone. If none of those take your fancy, you can also use images taken with the iPhone’s camera, or sideloaded from your PC or Mac.

The phone certainly looks the part. I have a Sony Ericsson P990i which has all of pretty much all of the features expected on the iPhone, touchscreen, MP3, camera, dowloadable (Symbian and Java) applications but the phone is still poor as the OS (Symbian UIQ) is just about as unintuitive and slow as you can get.
