Apple and AT&T have revealed that new iPhone owners can activate (register with the network) their new purchase through Apple’s iTunes software, rather than needing to wait to do it in-store. Once connected to your Mac or PC, iTunes steps you through selection of talkplan, whether you wish to transfer an old number to the new phone, and then onto synching music, calendars, contacts and videos.
The introductory video on Apple’s website also explains that web bookmarks can be synched to iPhone from Apple’s own Safari browser on the Mac or from Internet Explorer and Safari on the PC. Notably missing from the roll call, however, is Firefox, which is an interesting snub to the world’s number two web browser, given Apple’s recent release of Safari for PC. So is it a technical hitch or a deliberate exclusion?
