Can it be true? As the US gears up for the official iPhone launch tonight, Newswireless is reporting that Apple will announce a 3G European version of the iPhone on Monday — which fits with the story we ran a month ago about a new iPhone model going into production this September. It’s also rumoured that Vodafone, T-Mobile in Germany and Carphone Warehouse will be involved in a joint promotion. T-Mobile and Vodafone… Really?
Although a number of Euro operators have been bandied about as iPhone partners, including Orange and T-Mobile, rumours of Vodafone’s involvement have gained more momentum. Apparently, Vodafone has been chosen by Apple partly because its 3G network is under-used, and to see the iPhone’s Safari web browser in its best light you ideally have to have a high-speed connection. In the US, where free wi-fi hotspots are often found, relying on wi-fi for net access makes more sense, but in Europe 3G is a more available and appealing option.

Ah, remember the good old days when Americans didn’t get SMS at all, and in fact didn’t use mobiles and instead carried around stupid pagers? Great days, only about 5 years ago too. Come on Vodafone, give us a 3G iPhone and give us our pride back!!
Hi
Thanks for the link
@Harry. Agreed. Come on Vodafone, here is YOUR chance to show your leadership. The days when iPhone will be a leading handset is coming close. In version 3.X, only the low end disposal handsets will be left for the old folks. No offense (senior citizens), unless Apple creates a phone with huge keys to address that market!. Mid to high-ends will be iPhone variants. In fact, 32GB flash version can replace many laptops in the workplace if there is a special dock to hook by LCD, kbd, mice, speakers. (Hopefully thats V5.0 in 3 years time).
