According to analyst firm Piper Jaffray, Apple may have managed to shift half a million iPhones over the course of the launch weekend which commenced last Friday (June 29th) at 6pm EDT.
Despite previous more conservative predictions of about 200,000, due to a decent quantity of units available in Apple stores across the weekend (even on Sunday when eighty four per cent of Apple stores still had iPhones available) the device shifted like hot cakes that were baked in the heart of the Sun prompting a larger estimate.
Interestingly about ninety five percent of iPhone early adopters in San Francisco, New York and Minneapolis went for the 8GB model and about half were new customers for AT&T (at least among the people surveyed). With so many people going for the 8GB version we are wondering if there is a large stockpile of 4GB versions going unsold. Just in case you are listening Steve Jobs, we really aren’t fussy at Pocket Picks. If you want to send us an iPhone, a 4GB version would be fine.
