Okay, so today’s iPhone rumour is that O2 has bagged the exclusive deal to sell iPhones in the UK, despite yesterday’s rumours that it was T-Mobile, and last week’s speculation that it was Vodafone. It’s Orange’s turn next week, 3 the week after that, and by August there’ll be strong speculation that Apple is going direct-to-consumers via an exclusive partnership with Poundstretcher.
Anyway, O2 has now responded publicly to this morning’s rumour, telling vnunet that “The news is currently still just rumours, so O2 can make no further comment”. The speculation merry-go-round looks set to continue until Apple actually makes an announcement, then.
I’d love at least one operator to come out and proudly state: “We’re NOT in the running for the iPhone – it’s rubbish.” If only to add a bit of variety to the rumour-mill.
