Connectivity to launch UK mobile number directory… but why?

Phone books still exist, but they’ve been rendered a bit useless by the proliferation of 118 directory enquiries services, who’ll give you any number you want over the phone, and even connect you.

Anyway, a UK firm called Connectivity is launching a similar service, but for people’s mobile numbers. A complete directory of mobile users, which you’ll be able to ring up and pay to be put through to someone.

I can’t help wondering who’d agree to be on such a directory (Connectivity will be asking people’s permission). Personally, I’d rather be in control of who has my mobile number, and can call me. Even though an operator will ring to ask you if you’re willing to take each call, it seems a bit of a rum idea. What do you think?

    Sounds great!

I believe your number will be added unless you say you dont want it added! This seems a bit strange to me, must read my T&Cs with orange…

I much prefer a service where you can add your number IF YOU WANT. For example http://www.mobile118.co.uk seems to offer a good service and its free. Now surely with more people using smart phones why would you pay?

  3. Sam says:

They will call you each time to ask if you want to accept the call That’s GREAT if you are travelling abroad and have to pay extortionate roaming charges.
Everyone should opt out. You can do this on their website…..if you can find it!

    Christopher,

This web site is nothing to do with 118800, but you’ve just posted your mobile phone numbers on a web page accessible by anyone in the world, unless you’ve posted someone elses numbers on purpose of course.

I do not want my, or any of my or my family’s numbers, or addresses etc stored on this data base. Numbers with-held for now. I reserve the right to publicise our numbers.

  8. Brenda says:

Just a thought, but if you text 118800 from your mobile phone to become ex-directory, you are actually giving them a number that they may not already have. I know they are not then supposed to give it out but they could sell it on. Cynical, me?

A Phone Book For Mobile Users

Phone books maybe a bit out dated these days as no really uses them so much. So now, this new idea of having a phone book with mobile numbers does sound like something strange. A UK firm called Connectivity is launching a directory service for people
