BlackBerry finally gets Wi-Fi capabilities

8820_press_01.jpgIt’s taken BlackBerry creators Research In Motion (RIM) a while but its finally giving its iconic mobile email devices Wi-Fi (802.11b/b/g) capabilities. Mobile Burn is reporting the imminent European launch of the 8820 but judging by the pictures it looks exactly like the 8800. This will be the first BlackBerry available in the UK that includes built-in Wi-Fi but RIM continues to give 3G a wide berth, relying on EDGE download speeds for back up outside of a wireless hotspot connection.

If the 8820 is exactly like the 8800 then you’ll also get built-in GPS for sat nav, quad-band capabilities, a QVGA-quality display, the new look media player seen in the BlackBerry Curve and Stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) for wireless streaming of music to compatible headphones and speakers.
