Sky, the satellite TV broadcaster, is launching ‘as live’ 3G video goal updates for Barclay’s Premier League matches this season, as part of a range of new services in its Mobile TV service.
Previously Sky Sports football on mobiles involved downloading or streaming match highlights or goals after matches had actually finished. This season, to paraphrase Sky, ‘it’s going to a whole new ball game’.
According to VNU.net, Sky’s new 24-7 Football service will show live goal updates (Outside the TV blackout period of 2.45pm-5.15pm on Saturday afternoons), as well as post-match highlights for all Barclays Premier League games and UEFA Champions League matches.
Vodafone and Orange already offer Sky’s Mobile TV package, and VNU claims that T-Mobile, O2 and 3 have already signed up to the new 24-7 service for their subscribers.
Sky has also announced it will offer Sky Sports 1, 2, 3 and Xtra channels in its Sky Mobile TV service from 11 August. They will be included in the News and Sports package (Which includes Sky Sports News) costing £5 a month for unlimited access (this is already offered by Vodafone and other operators).
