People keen on mobile ads but currently find them irrelevant

Mobile advertising companies, listen up. In a recent Pontis commissioned UK survey about mobile advertising it was discovered that people are quite happy to receive targeted ads as long as they are relevant and unobtrusive. Unfortunately the survey also revealed that the majority of people find the mobile ads they are sent to be intrusive and irrelevant – oh dear.

70 percent of mobile phone users consider the marketing offers they receive not to be relevant to them and 64 percent of these confess to being annoyed by them.

Could the mobile advertising industry be in need of a bit of ‘more haste, less speed’ style advice? Apparently not, as even in spite of these customer gripes there are still plenty of people responding to mobile ads with their wallets.

A respectable 11 percent of those surveyed admitted to purchasing an item as a result of a mobile advert. Doesn’t sound like much but if the survey (which was conducted with 752 participants) is representative of all mobile users, 11 per cent is quite a bit of dough.

Still, there is always room for improvement and let’s hope mobile advertising adapts more quickly than internet advertising has, specifically email targeted advertising; I mean what do I, a 25 year old man, need menopause counselling for? I ask you.
