Quite a lot has been happening over at the Fring camp lately. Of most interest to you lot is probably that the application has now been updated to version 3.20 which includes the following changes:
1. GSM contacts icons – updated
2. fring doesn’t crash during an incoming GSM call
3. Now supports Chinese
4. Hide/show GSM contacts scroll bar – fixed
Earlier in the month, Fring also added ICQ to its list of supported IM clients, meaning that if you already use the client on a PC you can now add all of your ICQ friends to your phone and contact them via Fring.
So it looks like there is enough to keep Fring customers happy for a while. If the company’s successfully completed second round of funding (estimated by Globes Online to be around the $12 million dollar mark) is anything to go by, Fring execs are no doubt sleeping easy too. The funding comes courtesy of North Bridge Venture Partners, VenFin Limited and current investors Pitango Venture Capital and Veritas Venture Partners.
We turn our backs for a second and an explosion of Fring news erupts in our wake. Not that we’re complaining mind.

This mobile VoIP space fascinates me. I question who will be the end winners. My guess is that genuine development companies such as Fring and WiFiMobile will prosper rather than the expanding amount of startups relying on the Nokia client.
