We remember watching a Quake competition on GamesMaster with Dominic Diamond way back when mobile phones (as they are today) were thought of as a future technology comparable with hover-boards and robot assistants. Who would have thought that one day we would be able to play this once top PC spec demanding game on a phone.
A very competent version of the game can now be played on S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 compatible handsets (Nokia N95, Nokia 6120, Nokia 6110) courtesy of the allaboutsymbian forum member, ohinkka. Just goes to show the sort of power that lies under the S60 hood as well as how flexible the Symbian OS can be when clever code-mongers have access to the right tools. Seems like emulated games are enjoying a bit of spotlight time this week. In light of the increased penetration of increasingly powerful handsets, could we be witnessing the beginnings of a lively mobile homebrew scene similar to the one that the PSP enjoys?

Great!! Quake 1 is a fun game, too. Specifically the multiplayer is outstanding. Can the phone let quake play on rage.quake.com ? That’s perhaps the better server to play on now. Can a keyboard & mouse be plugged into it?

You can get a Bluetooth keyboard for the N95, and it has a TV-out port, so you probably could get it set up and running through your TV pretty well. Not sure about the mouse, though.
