O2 has launched a new prepay offer for UK customers who call abroad a lot. Your Country Pay & Go gives a bundle of international calling minutes when customers top-up their credit.
O2 charges £4.99 for a YCP&G Sim, to which free international minutes to any landline or mobile in any country are added with each monthly top-up. The amount depends on how much is topped up — so for instance a £10 top-up gets 50 international minutes, £15 gets 100, £30 gets 200. Outside of the bundles, calls cost 7p per minute to Europe, or 30p to mobiles (International Caller Bolt On rates).
Customers don’t have to get a YCP&G Sim, and can opt in with a free shortcode.
In July O2 dropped its roaming fees with My Europe, and from September all O2 customers were put onto My Europe. Other operators have also dropped their roaming charges over the last few months, but not because they want to offer special deals. It’s more likely because of the new EU roaming charges legislation that came into force on 1 September. Under the new Eurotariff, no calls in Europe can cost more than 38p to make or 10p to receive.
