Fed up with hearing about the iPhone? Or can’t you wait to get your hands on one? Well, it seems you’re not going to be able to ignore O2’s launch of it in the lead up to Christmas.
O2 UK CEO Matthew Key has told Reuters that O2 and Apple are planning a multi-million pound advertising campaign around the device’s launch, describing it as the O2’s ‘most significant campaign’. He did say the marketing would cost less than £20m, but then considering most ‘big’ mobile campaigns come in at sub-£10m, the signs are O2’s promotion could be huge.
Not missing a chance to big up O2’s exclusivity on the iPhone, Key reckons 80% of O2’s high-value customers want an iPhone and 40% of high-spending customers on other networks would be prepared to switch to O2 just to get an iPhone. Key also confirmed that the iPhone would be sold for £269 to customers signing up for 18-month contracts with O2.
