ThinkGeek, a website selling clothes and gadgets for techies is launching a t-shirt with built-in WiFi detector on the front.
The animated glowing bars on the front change depending on the WiFi signal strength they’re picking up, so you can just look down to see if you’re in a hotspot – as can everyone around you.
The t-shirt runs on three AAA batteries concealed in a pocket sewn into the back of the shirt, and the animated decal is removable for when you have to wash it.
The shirts cost $29.99 each from ThinkGeek and come in a choice of colours – black, black or black. They’ll go on sale at the end of October.
ThinkGeek’s marketing gumpf says: ‘Finally you can get the attention you deserve as others bow to you as their reverential WiFi god, while geeky chicks swoon at your presence.’
Or people will think you’re a bit of an idiot. Presumably the ThinkGeek designers don’t remember those ravers’ t-shirts that changed colour when you sweated and were all the rage for about six weeks in the early nineties. They too seemed like a good idea at the time…
