Rock gods Led Zeppelin are going to release their complete back catalogue for digital downloads for the first time next month, and have already signed a deal with Verizon Wireless in the US for ringtones and full-track downloads.
Led Zeppelin have historically always been resistant to their music being used in advertising let alone being available for downloads to music players and mobile phones, so the announcement bodes well for rock loving mobile owners.
From November 13th, Led Zeppelin’s music will be available from all online retailers, not just iTunes. The deal with Verizon Wireless hints that a similar deal with a UK operator could be on the cards.
Having been huge in the Seventies, Led Zeppelin might now be part of rock’s history, but after one millions fans signed up to get one of 10,000 tickets for their reunion gig in London next month, it shows there’s still a huge fan base. Any UK operator who manages to get a deal to offer Led Zeppelin tracks to its subscribers could well clean up.
