First Sony Ericsson W960i review says the phone has ‘not much going for it’

W960i

Sony Ericsson’s new range-topping Walkman phone, the W960i (shown right, next to a P1i), has been one of our most hotly anticipated phones of 2007. Featuring 8GB of storage, wi-fi, a touch-screen, the UIQ interface, and a 3.2MP camera, the handset’s technical feature list ticks all the right boxes.

But respected handset review site Mobile Review has just posted its in-depth report on the W960i and found the phone lacking. In fact, it’s final impressions are that the new Sony Ericsson has ‘not much going for it’. Areas singled out for criticism include:

  • Average sound quality — which is a bit of an issue when being a music player is the W960i’s headline feature!
  • Design problems with the touch-control of the phone’s music playing app
  • Low quality stylus and badly implemented jog-dial control, with the latter’s design making it impossible to navigate the phone one-handed
  • An overall feeling that Nokia’s high-end Nseries handsets offer better value for money and have the benefits of being based on the S60 platform

This review will come as bitter disappointment to Sony Ericsson fans who’d been waiting for the W960i to lead the company’s charge against the Nseries and iPhone — and you can count us among those fans.

“(shown right, next to a P1i)” ORLY?? That’s M600i, not P1i. You really know what you’re talking about, that’s for sure. lol…

Look…. About the whole messaging thing where it takes long to load up….. It’s only because you’ve closed the messaging thing from the task list…. If you leave the messaging open instead of closing it, the message is opened instantly. Try it. Receive a message, make sure all programs are closed. Just go back to the home screen, receive another one and see how quick you’l open it! Also having less messages always helps too! And yeah luckily for me i’m left handed so the scroll is fine for me to use as well as the back button!
