MusicStation appearing on UK BlackBerries – or is it?

8300gold_ENG_top_angle.jpgOmniphone’s unlimited music service MusicStation might be available on Rim’s BlackBerry devices from next month… or it might not.

Reuters has been told by Omnifone’s CEO Rob Lewis that Omnifone had signed a deal to supply BlackBerries with the service offering unlimited music downloads for £1.99 a month.

However, this morning, Omnifone released a statement from Lewis saying that the company’s goal is to ensure its service becomes available to as many consumers on as many devices as possible.

Vodafone secured a UK exclusive for MusicStation (also launching early next month), so Omnifone are being understandably non-committal about whether its signed deals with other companies. Lewis stated that providing MusicStation to network operators remained Omnifone’s priority. RIM has also refused to confirm the rumour, saying it had ‘no information’ about the rumoured plans.

A confusing situation, but our bet is that MusicStation is appearing on BlackBerries in the UK next month – Vodafone BlackBerries. The rumours of a separate deal with RIM might just be a case of mixed messages. Watch this space next month to find out if they’re true or not.
