Google’s Android an iPhone rip-off?

logo_android1.gifGoogle has just released the software development kit (SDK) for Android and it’s already apparent that the SDK has very heavily influenced by Apple.

Developers can now use the open-source SDK to start creating programs in time for the first Android phones next year. Google claims the SDK will tap into most features we’ll see on handsets like 3G access, music/video and controls (i.e. touchscreen and keypad).

So where does the Apple link come in? The platform for Android’s web browser is the same as for Apple’s Safari (as seen on computers and the iPhone).

And that’s not all: other areas of the OS also resemble existing Apple operating systems – including the need to tap and finger-drag to scroll round pages. There’s also a Mac OSX-style dock and a Cover Flow-style interface for pop-up notices (as seen on the iPhone).

Before you start screaming that Android devices will just be iPhones in another guise, bear in mind that none of the manufacturers who signed up to the Open Handset Alliance are obliged to use any/all of the Android features listed above.

One thing’s for sure, Apple’s iPhone is already proving itself to be one of the most influential developments in mobile for a long time.

Ok, Problems with the above statement abound here

Safari uses the Konquorer (as in KDE) renderer. Safari is nothing more than konquorer repackaged. Apple very rarely design new technologies, for example the touch screen technology was not designed by apple. neither were mp3 players.

So what if google use KHTML rendering (check out kde) just because apple use a KHTML Browser doesn’t mean they invented it. There are plenty of other examples that people give apple credit for, Time Machine… So only recently have mac users been able to set backups to run to an external drive??? Windows and Linux People have been doing this for years. Apple rip off everyone as much as other companies might be ripping off apple. for example the new visualisation in iTunes was not written by apple. oh no, it was written by a company called whitecap. but people never read the EULA’s, they just assume that apple did it all. Well, They didn’t. Apple are as much of a rip off merchant as MS. Consider this example As far back as i can remember, wasn’t DOS patented by IBM. The only discernable difference I could see was that one of them had MS on it and the other had apple. But apple didn’t credit IBM for use of their IP. This is like the apple users bitching about MS for “stealing” bits and pieces of software. Well, IBM had a black screen with white text on it that commands were inputted into, and despite the fact that some of the commands were different, nonetheless, apple ripped off IBM, See how illogical that is? that’s what mac users are like. Oh, they’re ripping off widgets and calling them gadgets, court, court, court seems to be the cry of the mac fanboi. what about KDE’s Implementation of widgets. They even call them widgets, they’ve been part of KDE before they were in OS X. but no one looks at that. All I’m saying is, that when someone copies apple, before crying wolf, see did apple possibly copy it from someone else?
