Monilink mobile banking spreads to BlackBerry handsets

monilink.jpgMobile banking is on the increase, particularly in poorer countries where traditional banks aren’t as accessible to the population, but also in the developed world too. In the UK, mobile banking firm Monitise has built up a head of steam, signing up the likes of HSBC, NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland and First Direct for its Monilink service, which involves text alerts and an application on your phone.

Anyway, so far it’s been Java handsets only, but the company has just announced a version of Monilink for BlackBerry. The app lets you check your balance, transfer money, get mini-statements and set up text alerts. Getting it onto BlackBerry should attract more business users.

Meanwhile, Monitise says it’s on the verge of rolling Monilink out in other countries besides the UK, and introducing new features, including inter-account transfers, peer-to-peer payments, Oyster-style NFC payments, and paying your bills.
