Help! My 3G iPhone is stuck in reboot hell!

iphone-backup.jpgOkay then, who else is having problems with their new 3G iPhone? Mine has had two full-on meltdowns – one last night and one just now – requiring full-scale restores taking an hour or two. See that pic on the right? Imagine if that progress bar was crawling along at about a pixel a minute, and that’s what’s happening on my PC as I write this.

Both times, I was in the middle of installing apps on the iPhone – once on the phone itself, and once via iTunes syncing – and both times it appeared to crash, then got stuck on the reboot screen (the one with the silver apple logo). And nothing would shift it. I tried the standard restart method of pressing the Home and Power keys for six seconds to shut it down, then pressing Power again to turn on, but it just got stuck there again.

Just as I started to weep last night, I found this article explaining how to force your iPhone into recovery mode – in short, do the thing above to turn it off, then hold down the Home button while plugging it into your PC, until the ‘connect to iTunes’ screen appears. And one looooong restore later, it was fine again. At least, until it did it again just now.

Anyone else having these kinds of problems? I’ve installed about 20 apps, but other than that have done nothing strange with the iPhone (i.e. I haven’t tried to unlock it from O2).

I have iphone 3G 16 GB, after downloading updates,I restored it because I noticed some of the programs were missing. Now my phone is in itune mode. Although I use my SIM card from our local service provider, Digicel. I can make /receive calls, and can listen to the recorded messages left with Digicel. When I switched it on, USB cable is shown to connect it to itunes. I restored several times thru Power and Home switch, but it didn’t work. Itunes message comes that my SIM is not supported. I have an itune account as well, thats not helpful either. Iwonder if any one has a solution. Thanks.
