iPhone 3G users complain of yellow screen tint

iphone-yellow-tint-080711-1.jpgReports are filtering through the ether that several early iPhone 3G adopters are noticing a difference between their new device and the old iPhone, that they don’t really like. Apparently the iPhone 3G’s screen is warmer to the point that it has a sort of yellow tint.

People have been lodging plenty of complaints, though the borked iTunes registration debacle has probably kept many iPhone 3G users too busy to notice any difference in the screen on their new phone. Despite Apple having previously stated that both versions of the iPhone use exactly the same display, Apple’s Senior Director of Product Marketing, Bob Borchers, has since contacted Engadget to state that the screen on the new iPhone 3G is more yellow and that it is deliberate.

Apparently the change is due to shifting the hue of blue-biased LCD of the original iPhone in order to produce more accurate colors most of the time with deeper blacks, and generally crisper images.

For iPhone 3G users that don’t like the change, it is possible to alter the yellow tint a little by cranking the brightness up a bit, so long as you don’t mind looking at retina scorchingly bright images.

It is unclear whether the difference in screen output is due to how the iPhone 3G is set up in terms of software or if the LCDs in the new units are actually just different. If the former is the case, those complainers can hold out hope for a firmware fix (though we wouldn’t hold our breath if we were you).

I have no clue what Apple is thinking but I have dome my homework and compared several iphones. friends, Apple stores and the color ranges from 3Gs being the exact same color as the old one to displays so wellow you would think they were deeped in horse pee… and before anyone can say anithing about it, the firmware does not matter. I have had 3 Iphone 3G the first one had the same color as the old one, the second was yellow as a chick and the third is acceptable but still a little yellow. all the same version 2.1… what’s the deal apple??
