D’oh! So close. Anyone brave enough to Jailbreak their 2.0 iPhone using the new Pwnage Tool had better avoid the first 2.0.x firmware update from APple.
Release 2.0.1 ‘re-Jails’ your iPhone or iPod Touch and renders any Jailbroken apps unusable. This is fairly standard behaviour for Apple and the Jailbreaking community should have a fix pretty soon.
Sadly for those of you waiting to hear if the new iPhone can be unlocked and hitched to a different network, this firmware update will come as even worse news. Apple has used the update to change the iPhone 3G baseband – effectively moving the goalpostsfor the Pwnage Tool Dev Team and pushing their unlocking code further and further away.
At least we haven’t had any reports of the new firmware actually bricking anyone’s Jailbroken handsets yet, though, which is something.
