Apple pulls “I Am Rich” after EIGHT people buy it

iamrich.jpgGood grief.  EIGHT PEOPLE have paid for that ‘I Am Rich’ iPhone app we covered on Wednesday and now Apple have pulled it from the App Store.

If you missed it, for a mere $999 you could buy an app that just displayed a red icon on your iPhone/iPod Touch, confirming that you were rich enough to afford to buy the otherwise useless app. Clever.  Or not.

Anyway, it seems as though the developer has convinced eight fools customers to part with their money, earning himself $5,600 with Apple taking $2,400 as its 30% App Store tax.

The app has now been removed from the App Store, apparently by Apple themselves.  In an interview with an incredulous LA Times, developer Armin Heinrich claims to be baffled as to why it is gone.

“I have no idea why they did it and am not aware of any violation of the rules to sell software on the App Store,” said the programmer, who is now able to legitimately run his own app, if only he could download it.
