Mobbler for S60 adds Last.FM streaming

mobblerbeta.pngRemember Mobbler?  A beta version of this Symbian S60 client for the Last.FM social music service was launched back in April.

Last.FM is a sort of web radio service that learns the kind of music you like (by ’scrobbling’ track data from your MP3 player or its own web-based client) and generates personalised radio stations stuffed with Your Kind Of Thing.

At the time is was easily the best Last.FM client around for S60 phones, although that was soemwhat faint praise.  The app could only handle the ’scroblling’ part of the equation by hooking up to your phone’s music player and harvesting data about the songs you like play.

It does have an uncanny knack of predicting musical taste and I have certainly discovered some interesting new music using the site, as well as being reminded about stuff I already liked but had completely forgotten about.

Now Mobbler has released an updated version that supports streaming music directly from Last.FM.

This is obviously the kind of thing that is better done on an unlimited data tariff, or using wifi if you have a suitable phone – otherwise you can expect to have quite a shock when your next bill arrives.
