Job ad proves Zune is heading to mobile, Xbox 360 and PC

You can tell a lot from job advertisements. Chiefly whether or not you want a new job, of course. But in the tech field, they often give hints at new directions and even products. Such is the case with this job ad from Microsoft for a ‘Software Development Engineer in Test’. Here’s the relevant bit of the advert – I’ve added the bold type:

“Do you dream about having a mobile phone based entertainment experience powered by a unified entertainment service across devices such as Zune, Xbox and PC? If yes, come join the Zune team! The Zune team is embarking on the mission to create a “Connected Entertainment” experience, realized through the Zune service, that spans multiple devices such as Zune, Xbox, PC and Mobile phones…”

Pretty conclusive, eh, even if there isn’t any detail of what this kind of “entertainment experience” entails. My guess: some kind of cross-platform store selling music, films and TV shows, which you’ll then be able to watch on all your Microsoft-powered devices. Perhaps a music subscription service of some kind too, to take on Nokia’s Comes With Music with even more devices.
