Vodafone has launched a new Facebook app that lets you send text messages to friends from within Facebook itself. That’s friends as in your Facebook friends, but also other mobile numbers.
The app isn’t just for Vodafone customers: any UK mobile users can access it. Vodafone customers will have the price of sending texts from the app – called Vodafone Connect to Friends – deducted from their top-up accounts if they’re pay-as-you-go, or appear on their bill if they’re on a contract. You get 25 freebies when you sign up, and non-Vodafone users can buy batches of messaging credits.
“With more than 20 million social network users in the UK alone, it is the perfect market in which to test a Vodafone service that allows all mobile users to send texts and picture messages via the Facebook experience,” says Voda’s group internet services director Pieter Knook.
