N96’s first firmware update borking features…

Before you ask, yes, ‘borking’ is a technical term, anyway. Nokia’s flagship Nseries powerhouse, the N96, was released just the other day here in the UK, but it seems all is not well in Nokiaville. As is the case with most high-end devices, the N96 released with a few minor gremlins lurking in its guts. No problem, a hasty firmware update will sort that, or so you would think.

Early adopters of the handset are complaining that the handset’s first firmware update is causing some of the problems with the handset to worsen, with people complaining particularly loudly about how quiet the sound through the headphones and speaker is. The firmware update in question is v11.018 (what an odd number to give to a device’s first firmware update) and there is a lengthy complaint thread brewing over on Nokia’s discussion boards.

Which is the best place for any grousing to be done, as it hopefully means that Nokia will be able to identify the problems more quickly and set about getting another update out to sort out the mess. Not the best start for Nokia’s new flagship handset, let’s hope things improve from here on in.
