Future Nokia S60 handsets will automatically search for firmware updates and download the required patches themselves, according to Nokia’s Mikko Kuusisto.
Beginning with the Nokia N79, over the air updates will become standard and phones will notify their owners as soon as a software update is available.
Removing the need for a WIndows PC to install the updates will also take Nokia one step closer to the phone being considered the user’s computer. I do have a slight concern about the update process – if you interrupt the usb update it can brick your phone. Hopefully they will cache the over teh air downloads and prevent any 3G mishaps…
