G1 phone gets Rooted

Well, that was quick.  An Android coder has worked out how to  Root the G1.

‘Rooting’, before you get any filthy ideas, refers to accessing the admin login (known as ‘root’ on most UNIX operating systems) and gaining full control of a system.

The process is apparently incredibly simple – quite a relative term if you read the instructions – and exploits a flaw in the telnet service that comes with the phone.

So, what does this mean?  Well, for the average user.. probably not much.  For Android hackers, though, this is big news and should mean that any secrets hiding away in T-Mobile’s ‘droid handset will see the light of day that much faster.
