Buy Gran a £49.99 mobile phone for Christmas

Mobile retailer Communic8 has announced that it’s taking orders for the new Binatone Speakeasy handset, which claims to be the cheapest big-button mobile for older people in the UK. It costs £49.99 from the Folkestone-based company’s Silverphone website, which should make it ideal Christmas present material.

As you’d expect given the target audience, the Speakeasy has been designed to be as easy to use as possible. It’s got an extra-large text display, big ole’ buttons, and a dedicated SMS key to access text messaging.

It’s compatible with digital hearing aids, has a special loud ringer, and doubles up as a torch. Oh, and there’s a notepad on the back. I actually quite fancy one myself, and I’m only 31. The handset is SIM-free too, so can be used on any operator.
