Almost exactly a year ago we brought you a rumour that Dell was considering making a smartphone with the help of Google – using the then-untested Android OS to make a ‘Google Phone’.
A year later, and now there is a Google Phone – kind of – but Dell stil hasn’t come through with the goods.
A report in the Wall Street Journal suggests that that may be about to change. A source claims to have seen evidence of several new handsets being prepped for release, including a touchscreenmodel and one with a slide-out keyboard. The phones are said to be built to run either/both Android and Windows Mobile.
The source claims that Dell is “preparing a move into cellphones as early as next month.” which would tie in rather neatly to the Mobile World Congress, which kicks off in mid-February.
