//It’s time to MouthOff
Sometimes it’s not enough to just say something. Sometimes, it’s necessary to accompany your soliloquies, speeches, rants and warblings with a prosthetic digital mouth. Unconvinced? You should be, but the memorably titled MouthOff is definitely more than the sum of its parts.
The application is a simple one. You buy it (£0.59), load it up, pick a comedy mouth from a selection including robot gnashers, pointy vampire fangs, blinged out gold dentures and K9 K9s and then hold the iPhone infront of your mouth and spraff, blether, sing and shout until you are blue in the face.
The application then uses the iPhone’s microphone to feed your outrageous forthcoming of noise into MouthOff, which then animates your chosen mouth in time with your words, resulting in muchos comedy effectos. It’s important to note that, for this reason, MouthOff only works on iPhones and second generation iPod touches which are accompanied by an in-line mic attachment on their headphones.
So far, so throwaway, but where MouthOff sets itself apart is with its viral ambitions. By filming yourself, and then uploading your video to YouTube, accompanied by the all important tag, ‘showusyourmouthoff’ , your video will be automatically posted on the MouthOff website.
It’s simple, fun and pretty amusing. Really the only things missing are due to the iPhone’s hardware and software limitations. A front facing camera on the iPhone would make perfect sense as you could then record your vids on the device (with the aid of a mirror), if it could record videos, which it can’t. If this was possible, accompanied by a direct upload feature, MouthOff would have a chance at becoming an iPhone viral phenomenon.
As it stands, it’s a quirky, fun idea that, while clearly set to benefit from the visibility of the iPhone, doesn’t quite fit the platform yet. Still, it’s a great stab at something different and it will almost certainly make you laugh, which is surely worth £0.59 in anyone’s book. To see a video of it in action, hit the jump below.
