The Microsoft Zune Phone is one of those ideas that just keeps popping up, no matter how often it is dismissed. Maybe it is just the suspicion that Microsoft won’t be able to just take Apple’s success with the iPhone lying down – they must try the Zune phone to save face, even if it is clearly a daft idea.
Microsoft recently issued yet another statement that they were not interested in getting into the hardware business, which seemed to put paid to the Zune Phone idea. Again.
Today, however, somebody at Microsoft may have dropped a whopping great hint via Twitter (fast becoming the corporate leakage medium of choice) that could mean they have to issue a denial of that denial.
The Office 10 team’s Twitter feed OfficeTheMovie went slightly off-topic with two posts – “June 2009 will be an important month for Zune lovers.” and “New product launch, that’s all I’m allowed to say. Hold off from buying an iPhone/Pre.
”
Now, this could mean anything, and maybe they just want you to save your iPhone money to buy something completely unrelated – like a Windows Dishwasher or an Xbox controller shaped like a lacrosse stick. All the same, the new iPhone is launching in June and what better way to try and steal some of Apple’s thunder than by crashing that party?
The Twitter feed is still up, which is a good sign that it is genuine and that Microsoft haven’t cease & desisted anyone over the ‘leak’. We’ll keep an eye on this one for you – more news as its made.
