More evidence that mobile blogging isn’t just posting video clips of your mates mooning out of car windows… BloggingBeirut.com has apparently been getting 400,000 hits a day recently, after posting camphone video clips of the aftermath of recent Israeli bombing raids.
It shows how in situations where it’s too dangerous even for the big broadcasters to have teams on the ground, non-journalists are stepping in to fill the gap with their own cameraphone footage.

It’s been a busy week for Pocket Gamer, the affable parent (or big-brother – like any self-respecting Hillbilly, we’re not sure). They’ve been combing the world of mobile games for what’s hot, what’s not, and what’s bald.
On the reviews front, they’ve looked at Rollercoaster Rush, Digital Chocolate’s one-thumb coast’em’up which puts you in the role of a brakeman on a series of topsy-turvy rollercoaster rides. They’ve also been chalking their cues with Trickshot Pool, Infospace’s newie which tests your show-off skills to the max.
On the news front, there’s stories on Kojak baldly going onto mobile phones, the best mobile Minesweeper game yet, ancient beat’em’up Fatal Fury, and Foto Fighter – a fantasy monster game that makes the most of your camera phone.
US firm Fun Little Movies has just announced ‘the first broadcast television commercial promoting an original, made-for-mobile series’. Break out the bunting! But seriously, it’s quite a big deal.
‘The Pool’ (short for ‘The Carpool’) looks like a sassy comedy series from the trailer that FLM has released – the show itself debuts on August 9th in the US. FLM has roped in Toyota to sponsor the show too, which presumably means lots of lingering shots of shiny motors alongside the jokes.
Is this cool content, or just sneaky advertising? Or cool content with an element of sneaky advertising? It’ll depend on the cars-to-gags ratio. But the fact that a big car manufacturer like Toyota is getting involved is an indication that mobile TV has a big future ahead of it.
Not sure whether ‘The Pool’ would work in the UK though – we tend to commute by public transport rather than shared cars. Maybe they could do a rewrite, transposing the action to a crowded train carriage, and getting sponsorship from… Ginsters pasties? Maybe not.
I’m feeling quite pessimistic about England’s chances of retaining the Ashes this Winter, what with players dropping injured like flies. Not that flies have dodgy knees or ankles (at least as far as I know).
Still, that hasn’t stopped UK publisher Player One from preparing an Ashes ‘mobishow’, which cricket fans will be able to watch on their mobile phone as the test series progresses.

If you, like me, are looking forward to spending the next nine months watching Aston Villa plunge kicking and screaming towards the Championship, you might be interested in Hands On Mobile’s nifty new mobile footy application.
Match Centre Live sits on your phone, giving you access to live info - goal scorers, commentary, league tables, transfer rumours, and the latest news on who’s roasting glamour models in swanky central London hotels. Well, maybe not that last one then.
The app supports all the English and top European leagues, and will be available for the start of the season in August. However, Hands On hasn’t announced any details on pricing – I’m guessing it might be a monthly subscription fee. As soon as I find out, you’ll read it here!
Want to download Christina Aguilera’s new single ‘Ain’t No Other Man’? You’ll have to wait until the end of June, but Orange customers can get their copy a couple of weeks earlier thanks to the operator’s exclusive deal with her record label Sony BMG.
What’s more, Orange has also bagged a month-long exclusive for the video clip, which’ll be available on mobile from 20th June, as well as ‘private concerts’ for Orange customers over the summer.
I’m not sure if this means gigs streaming to your mobile, or actual concerts that only Orange subscribers can attend. The more important question is will Aggy be wearing the chaps this time round?
