Vodafone’s mobile TV service is best in the UK. Well, kind of

live_mobile_tv_midi.jpgSurveys are great, especially when they compare a bunch of similar products or services and tell you which is best. Mobile services, family cars, pork pies… They’re invaluable. But there’s something a bit rum about this survey from Strategy Analytics, which has crowned Vodafone’s mobile TV service as the best in the UK.

Users were asked to rate the mobile TV services from Vodafone, 3 and ROK TV on four criteria for usability, audiovisual quality, network performance and content, and Vodafone duly came top. But hang on, doesn’t Orange do mobile TV as well? Yes, but according to the news announcement, “technical difficulties made it impossible to evaluate Orange TV”.

Is that technical difficulties at Orange’s end, or the surveyed users? It’s like having the pork pie test without Ginsters… Obviously, if anyone from Strategy Analytics (or Orange) is reading this, do post a comment to shed some light on the issue.

    Hi Stuart,
    Bruce from ROK here.
Rather than raising the issue of the failure of Orange 3G TV in the head-to-head review, I think the real story here is that our mobile TV solution was tested over 2.5G GPRS against the others (all of whom operate over 3G). ROK outperformed 3 and, by default, Orange TV.
As a result, we believe the 3G monopoly of video-streaming has been smashed wide open!
