You’d think summer would be a quiet period for mobile games, what with developers soaking up the sun rain like the rest of us, instead of working. But no. This week on Pocket Gamer there’s been a stream of new games and news.
Starting with the news that Gameloft is taking on Super Monkey Ball at its own game, with new title Tropical Madness (right). It features a squirrel rather than a monkey though, with nuts predictably replacing bananas.
Meanwhile, Digital Chocolate revealed its Mafia Wars Yakuza game, which plunges you into Japanese mobster skirmishes with bullets flying everywhere. Which is always nice. Both games are out next month.
Want to know what mobile games to buy this week though? Pocket Gamer loved the creepy Darkest Fear 2, which is mobile’s equivalent of Resident Evil-style survival horror console games. Garfield 2 also won plaudits for turning a so-so movie into an absorbing mobile adventure. Funky Ducky wasn’t so lucky (crap poetry not intended), being a puzzler with little depth.
