Turning the mobile world upside down

Upside down phone patentIt’s nice to see the occasional convention turned - literally - on its head. A recently uncovered patent application by one Anthony Harrison shows some fresh thinking in the realm of handset design. Put simply, he’s turned it upside down, allowing the handset to sit in the palm of your hand while you type, rather than being clenched in your fingers.

Having tried it out with a fairly weighty Nokia 6680, we think there might be something in this - it does feel quite comfortable to hold. If the patent goes through, it’ll be interesting to see whether Nokia et al pick this one up.
