Nokia has become the latest company hoping to benefit from an association with the talismanic YouTube. At 3GSM today it announced it’s bringing YouTube videos into the hands of Nokia Nseries owners via the Nokia Web Browser with Mini Map, by hooking into the soon-to-be-launched YouTube mobile site. What’s more, YouTube video RSS feeds will be accessible via the new Nokia Video Center application.
“We are thrilled to be giving users easy access to entertaining YouTube videos anytime and anywhere,†said Steve Chen, co-founder and chief technology officer for YouTube. “By partnering with an industry leader like Nokia, we’re able to bring YouTube videos to mobile phone users worldwide.â€
We’re not exactly sure what this partnership entails beyond sharing press release back-slapping – we can’t really imagine a reality where Nokia actually tried to stop users accessing YouTube via their phones’ Web browsers – but we’re all for YouTube on our mobiles. As no doubt will be happy slappers, who could be watching the results of their uploaded antics garnering viewers before they’ve even left the crime scene.
As for that Nokia Video Center, it will first be preinstalled in the Nokia N95, with most of the new Nokia Nseries devices to follow. It will also be available as a download for selected compatible S60 devices.
