Strangely, rather than letting us know two days ago that its smart2go mobile maps service (which it acquired last autumn) had been released, Nokia has instead let us know that the free app has been downloaded over 30,000 since it was made available.
However, it’s all good news, and owners of N-series and S60 smartphones (like the 6680) should head over to the Nokia Maps site to download the app and find out what the fuss is all about.

Funny - I downloaded this and tried to run it on my 6680. Threw up an error message saying ‘File Corrupt’.
Reading up more on this it would seem the older S60 phones (less than version 3) are not compatible.
Nice one Nokia….thumbs up all round.
That’s odd… I installed it on my 6680 (via Bluetooth) and it was fine. Have you tried downloading it again?
I’m running version 4.04.07 of the 6680 firmware (type *#0000# to find out what version you have). Have you tried updating your phone? If you have a 6680 USB cable you can head over to http://www.nokia.co.uk and download the updates online (go through the ‘Support’ options to find it).
Words to the wise:
Use the Tool > Memory > Backup Phone Mem option to copy all your contacts and texts to your memory card, then take the memory card OUT when you run the update. Otherwise you might find it gets erased during the update!
There are firmware versions up to 6.xx, I think, but even though I unlocked my 6680 from Orange, something is telling the Nokia site that it’s still branded - which is a pain because the version 6 stuff is supposed to be really good. But it was definitely worth upgrading from version 3 firmware - the camera seems much better, and the whole phone is more stable.
And whatever you do, make sure the battery is charged-up, that you have your operator SIM in the phone, and that you do NOT unplug or disturb the phone’s USB cable during the update… otherwise you might do your handset some serious damage.

hello i have a 6680 and i instaled nokia maps but it doesn’t appeare on my menu i have v5.04.07 15-02-06 rm-36, how can i update my firmware because on the page it say me that is the newest one
Nokia Map Loader only works on Windows, needs .net framework, and if you add a new map the map loader deletes all your existing maps so you’ll have to download them all over again.
But you don’t need Nokia Map Loader. http://nokiamaps.moo.no links to all maps on Nokia’s smart2go server. Works with any browser on any operating system, including Mac and Linux. No need to install anything on your computer, so it works when you’re in a hotel, school, at work, or in an internet cafe.
If your phone talks WiFi or 3G you can add and update maps from your phone’s web browser without even touching a computer.
hi, I have upgraded to firmware 5.04.40 on my n6680 recently. I tried installing nokia maps on it. But there seem to be 3 versions of nokia maps out of which only one installs on the n6680 i.e. version 1.1.
On the menu I see smart2go but when I try to open it the screen blinks for a second and then the menu comes back without the application opening. any clue whats wrong?
